Philipp Lamprecht - a multi-faceted and versatile musician with a fondness for the New and the Old.
He is active primarily in the field of chamber music as a member of various ensembles for contemporary and historical music, and also realises his own solo and educational projects. Tamburelli, pipe and tabor, baroque kettledrums, medieval castanets and nakers (medieval kettledrums), tenor drum, a multitude of different hand drums, hurdy-gurdy, romanesque bells, among others…all of these are part of his everyday musical life, as well as the more standard, well-established percussion instruments.
A recent live broadcast of the trio version of J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion from the St. Thomas Church, Leipzig on Good Friday of 2020 attracted international attention. Tenor Benedikt Kristjánsson, harpsichordist Elina Albach, and Philipp Lamprecht performed this reduction, which was awarded the Opus Klassik Award in 2019, in the empty St. Thomas Church - live in front of the cameras, while hundreds of thousands of viewers throughout the world watched on their screens. The audience sang along with the chorales in their homes. Some of these were played back during the transmission.
Since the Winter semester of 2015/16 the well-versed musician is lecturer for percussion instruments at the Mozarteum University.
Born 1984 in Meran (South Tyrol/Italy), the qualified hotel manager began studying with Prof. Dr. Sadlo at the Mozarteum University Salzburg in 2003. With his support, Philipp Lamprecht was able to achieve his first international successes not long after. He has performed with Camerata Salzburg, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica, and the Philharmonie der Nationen in Europe and Asia, among other orchestras. In addition to this, together with the percussion quartet Via Nova Percussion Group he was awarded the first prize at the 2005 International Percussion Competition Luxembourg, along with two further prizes. In 2011/12 he was an intern of the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt.
Regular collaboration with composers from all over the world, as well as performances of established solo and chamber music works of the 20th and early 21st century for mallet percussion, multipercussion, and non-European instruments shape Philipp’s musical life with about a dozen world premieres per year.
In addition to this Philipp Lamprecht performs regularly with different ensembles for contemporary classical music, notably ensemble chromoson (South Tyrol), Ensemble Meitar (Tel Aviv), Windkraft Tirol, risonanze erranti (Munich), NAMES (Salzburg), among others.
Furthermore he works with artists from different backgrounds, among these the choreographer Alessio Trevisani, and the actor / director André Hinderlich.
The varied percussion instruments of early music
Philipp Lamprecht’s enthusiasm for the diverse battery of instruments in Early Music – especially medieval music – has, in recent years, led him to a specialisation in the field of historically informed performance. He has a busy concert schedule, primarily with his own ensembles: the duo Enßle-Lamprecht (recorder/percussion) and La Petite Ecurie (oboe band), but also with other ensembles, among them Concerto Köln, the Svapinga Consort, and the Münchener Hofkapelle. A CD-production for SONY Classical together with the Ensemble Bourbon is planned for 2020.
Among his sponsors are the cultural department of the Province of Bolzano/Bozen (2010), the Austrian ministry of education (2012), and the Saxony-Anhalt Arts Foundation (2015).
CD recordings: Johannespassion (2019), tesserae (2017), jeuX (2013), …bald ist mir nimmer kalt (2011), Points of Contact (2010), la simila pintura (2008), new generation (2007).
